A West Liberty woman was taken into custody early Sunday morning after an alleged altercation at the Union Bar in downtown Iowa City.
Arrest reports indicate that 18-year-old Laura Vargas Garcia was in the Union Bar at around 1:30am when she followed another woman into a restroom there. She’s accused of striking the woman on the forehead, causing a large bump approximately one inch in diameter, and a laceration.
The woman allegedly attacked by Garcia also said that Garcia attacked her face and scratched her neck, causing abrasions and deep scratch marks.
When interviewed by police, Garcia reportedly stated that she reacted after the woman pushed her into a wall, but the woman denies provoking any altercation.
Garcia was arrested and charged wtih assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to one year if convicted.
