A Mount Vernon man has been taken into custody after an alleged weekend domestic incident in Iowa City.
Police say 24-year-old Riley Dixon of Longview Court went back to the Heinz Road residence where he lived with a woman Sunday at around 3:30pm. A verbal argument reportedly started between the two about one of the woman’s friends.
Dixon allegedly became upset and started removing food and property from the residence to put in his car. He’s accused of throwing a grill off the deck of the apartment at one point.
The woman told police that she was pushed by Dixon while he was trying to take a televison that was reportedly shared property.
When police arrived, they located Dixon outside of the apartment complex and say that he smelled strongly of ingested alcohol. He allegedly admitted to drinking and was said to have had bloodshot watery eyes and slurred speech.
Police say Dixon denied pushing the woman but stated that he brushed up against her with his back. He was taken into custody and refused a post arrest PBT.
Dixon was charged with domestic abuse assault and public intoxication, both a simple misdemeanor punishable by a combined jail sentence of up to 60 days. A no-contact order was requested between the two parties involved.
