A Chicago man has been taken into custody after allegedly assaulting a woman who is pregnant with his child.

Police say 21-year-old Kyle Hamilton has been living in an intimate relationship with the alleged victim over the past year. He’s accused of assaulting her Wednesday afternoon.

Hamilton allegedly shoved the woman against a wall, grabbed her throat and strangled her. He also reportedly struck her in the face, causing a swollen lip. The woman also had a sprained or broken wrist from a previous assault, and the assault allegedly exacerbated that injury.

Police noted visible bruising on the woman’s neck and she reported pain and difficulty in swallowing

Hamilton was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault impeding airflow, and Domestic Abuse Assault causing injury. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to six years in prison.

A no-contact order was requested between the two parties.
