The Iowa Hawkeye women’s basketball team will be the third seed when the women’s Big Ten Tournament gets underway Wednesday in Indianapolis.

Iowa won’t play until Friday, and who they play won’t be determined until late Thursday. 14th seeded Penn State plays 11th seed Minnesota Wednesday night; the winner plays 6th seeded Ohio State on Thursday night, and that team takes on the Hawkeyes at around 9pm Friday night.

Yesterday afternoon, the regular season ended with an overtime loss to Rutgers, 78-74.

Trailing most of the game and down by seven at the end of three quarters, Makenzie Meyer made a three with 11 seconds left to put the game into overtime. Rutgers scored the first basket and never looked back, leading by as much as seven before McKenna Warnock made a 3 for the final score of the game.

Freshman Gabbie Marshall had a career day, nailing her first five three-point attempts and making six on the afternoon. She also had her first 20-point game, ending with 22. She led all scorers, with Monika Czinano getting 19.

The Hawkeyes finish the regular season with a 14-4 Big Ten Conference record, and 23-6 overall.
