A West Liberty man was taken into custody over the weekend after an alleged domestic assault.

According to reports, 47-year-old Manuel Rocha of North Walnut Street was involved in an argument with his significant other Saturday around 2:40am. The couple reside together and share two biological children and two of her children from a previous relationship.

The woman told officers that Rocha was arguing with her when he unfolded a knife, placed it on a table, and told her to kill herself. She then barricaded the bedroom door with a children’s bed, but Rocha is accused of kicking in the door, slapping her in the face, and pushing her. Three of the children in the house were in the bedroom when the alleged assault took place.

Rocha was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault with the use of a weapon and Child Endangerment, both aggravated misdemeanors. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to four years in prison.
