A fired employee accused of burglarizing her former Coralville employer wasn’t difficult to identify in security video: Police say she committed the burglary while wearing her former work uniform.

According to arrest records, 34-year-old Erin McKenzie of Lakeside Drive in Iowa City had been fired last year by one of the restaurants in the strip mall at 89 2nd Street. Security footage allegedly shows McKenzie using her key, which she failed to turn in to management, to enter the restaurant around 7am on New Year’s Day. The video reportedly shows McKenzie take $100 out of the cash box and leave the premises.

Employees positively identified McKenzie, who police say was wearing her old work uniform at the time of the burglary.

McKenzie was booked into the Johnson County Jail at 6am Saturday and charged with 3rd Degree Burglary. If convicted, she faces a maximum of five years in prison.
