An Iowa City man was taken into custody after arguing with his female roommate over a TV that had been broken years ago, leading to an alleged assault.

According to arrest reports, 60-year-old David Stuelke of Modern Way and the victim currently co-habitate and reportedly had previously been in an intimate relationship. The two were in the living room of the residence and were arguing about a television that had been broken years ago and other damage that had occurred in the residence.

Police say at the time of the argument Thursday afternoon, Stuelke was sitting in a chair and the woman was lying on a couch. Stuelke is then accused of hitting the woman on the top of her head with an open hand. The two reportedly stood up and the woman told Stuelke that she was going to call 911.

Stuelke allegedly then called her some derogatory names, shoved her with two hands, and challenged her to come at him. She retreated and made the call, while Stuelke went to a bedroom to lay down.

Stuelke was taken into custody, and charged with first offense domestic abuse assault, a simple misdemeanor. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 30 days in jail.
