A Swisher man has been taken into custody on his birthday after allegedly taking a woman’s keys and phones and keeping her from leaving a residence.

According to arrest reports, 26-year-old Lance Degan was at a residence on 120th Street at approximately 3:49pm Sunday, his birthday, when he got into a verbal argument with a woman. The woman tried to leave the scene but Degan reportedly stole her keys and phone.

The woman called 911 for help through her vehicle, but Degan is accused of hanging up the call with the phone. He then fought with the woman for the keys, causing injury to her face and shoulder. Police asked about dirt they noticed up her entire leg, and she stated that she was pushed to the ground at some point.

Degan is also accused of damaging the mirror and door handle of the woman’s vehicle. He allegedly took her keys and phone and went into the residence, with the woman having no other way to leave.

The woman’s child, of whom Degan is the father, was reportedly in the back seat of the vehicle during the entire altercation.

Degan came out of the house eventually, and as deputies approached, he attempted to go back into the house, and reportedly resisted while being handcuffed. He was also allegedly able to shift his handcuffs to his front during transport to jail.

Degan has been charged with Domestic Abuse Assault causing injury, False Imprisonment, Interference with Official Acts, 4th degree Criminal Mischief, 5th degree Theft, Obstruction of Emergency Communications, and Child Endangerment.

Degan was on probation for an Assault with the use of a Weapon Charge, and with Sunday’s incident could be sentenced to over seven years in prison.

A no-contact order was ordered between the two parties.
