The 24-hour University of Iowa Dance Marathon that ended Saturday evening was the culmination of a year-long effort to raise money for the Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

To call it a success would be an understatement.

When the tote board revealed the final number at 7pm, Dance Marathon 26 fundraised $2,879,755.26. It’s the third-highest total in the history of the event.

In a press release from Dance Marathon, Executive Director Allie Stutting said, This number is 3,000 students who want to see an end to pediatric cancer, a community that rallies behind sick children, University faculty and staff who continue giving after being asked for donations time and time again, alumni who continue to fight for the mission of UIDM, and families who continue to show us that not all superheroes wear capes.”

The monies all go to create and sustain special projects to provide emotional and financial support for pediatric oncology and bone marrow transplant patients and their families treated here.
