A North Liberty woman has been accused of conspiring to bilk a local credit union out of over $3000.

According to police, 19-year-old Emily Troyer of Penn Court conspired with another person to deposit fraudulent checks into her account at Greenstate Credit Union on Landon Road between December 9th and 12th of last year.

An investigation reportedly found that Troyer would have the checks deposited into her account, and then use an online app to transfer the money before the checks would be found to be fraudulent. She allegedly admitted that the unknown second person deposited over $3000 in fraudulent checks into her account and she then transferred the money to the unknown person using her app.

Troyer then allegedly went to the North Liberty Police on the 12th to file a fraudulent report of someone taking the money from her account.

Police say Troyer admitted knowing that there was no way the scheme she participated in was legal.

Troyer was booked into the Johnson County Jail Wednesday afternoon and charged with 2nd degree Theft and False Report of indictable offense to a public entity. If convicted, she could be sentenced to up to six years in prison.
