Charges have been dismissed against a Cedar Rapids woman who police said chased down her boyfriend in her car in an Iowa City hotel parking lot.

Just after 2am on November 9th a witness reported seeing 21-year-old Shaelyne Beshears of Lewellen Drive Northwest driving her vehicle after a male who was fleeing on foot in the parking lot of the former Clarion Highlander Hotel on North Dodge Street. The witness said Beshears was driving after the male at a high speed.

Arriving officers could hear Bashears and the male arguing inside a hotel room. Bashears allegedly admitted to pushing her boyfriend, and said she had no intention of running him down in her car. She claimed she just wanted to talk to him after the two had an argument downtown.

Hotel staff had observed the boyfriend running through the building before officers arrived. He had a cut on his side and blood on his sweatshirt, which were believed to have happened while he was running away from Bashears.

Bashears was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault, a Simple Misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of 30 days in jail. Those charges were dismissed on Thursday.
