A 33-year-old Ankeny man has been taken into custody after police reportedly found drugs in plain sight during a traffic stop.

James Williams was called in for allegedly being parked in the middle of the roadway on a Highway 218 off-ramp Thursday just before 11pm. Williams was then seen driving and reaching speeds of 80 miles an hour in the 65 miles per hour zone.

While conducting the traffic stop at the southbound 93 mile marker, drugs were allegedly seen in plain sight. The substances reportedly included a green leafy substance and a crystal substance, along with a glass pipe.

Williams was taken into custody with his third possession of a controlled substance charge, a Class D felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted, Williams could be sentenced to over five years in prison.
