President Donald Trump lashed out at his top Democratic presidential rivals while taking his fight to Iowa and the crucial battleground state of Michigan Thursday, while keeping reporters from the Daily Iowan and other media outside the Des Moines venue.

With Democrats set to hold their caucus Monday, Trump slammed former Vice President Joe Biden for his small campaign crowds, mocked Bernie Sanders as “Crazy Bernie” and accused Pete Buttigieg of having an unpronounceable last name.

He also rehashed old grievances and digs at 2016 Democratic rival Hillary Clinton but said the current field of Democratic contenders offers him stiffer competition than the former secretary of state.

The Daily Iowan reported that their reporters who were among those left outside by security officials, who told them 90 minutes before the event that the fire marshal wouldn’t let any more people in. National correspondents such as New York Magazine Washington correspondent Olivia Nuzzi, Daily Beast Washington bureau chief Jackie Kucinich, and NPR campaign reporter Scott Detrow were shut out, with others reporting being yelled at by Trump staffers as the marshals denied their entrance.
