A Coralville man who had a warrant out on a parole violation was arrested after being charged with his second OWI.

Police say a state trooper eastbound near the I80 240 mile marker Sunday morning at 4:16am observed a vehicle going 94 miles an hour in a posted 55 miles-per-hour construction zone. A traffic stop was conducted, and 28-year-old Robert Dixon Jr. was identified as the driver.

The officer alleges that an odor of ingested alcohol and marijuana was emanating from the vehicle and its occupants. A check of Dixon Jr’s record showed an outstanding warrant for a parole violation and violent tendencies; he was then taken into custody.

At the Coralville PD, he refused to submit to initial SFST testing, but allegedly submitted breath and urine samples after consulting with his attorney.

He was booked at the Johnson County Jail and charged with OWI second offense, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a prison sentence of up to two years if convicted.
