An Illinois man has been taken into custody after allegedly getting his vehicle unstuck in the snow and leaving the scene without paying the driver.

According to police, 39-year-old Bryant Williams of Glendale Heights was stuck on Herbert Hoover Highway Northeast on January 11th shortly after 1am, and called a tow service to get his vehicle off the roadway.

Once the vehicle was safely off the road, Williams walked up to the tow truck driver, who told Williams that he owed over $470 for the tow. Williams then allegedly walked back to his vehicle and fled the scene, reportedly hitting the tow truck driver in his leg and driving over his foot while doing so.

When contacted, Williams allegedly admitted to driving that night, and said he called the company the next day to settle up for the tow bill, and said he would pay him $100 a week or when he got paid.

A warrant was issued for Williams’ arrest and he was taken into custody Wednesday night. He’s been charged with 4th degree theft and simple assault. If convicted on both charges, Williams could be sentenced to up to 13 months in jail.
