An Iowa City man has been arrested on a warrant stemming from unauthorized use of a credit card.

According to police, 21-year-old DeCarlos Toro Junior was at the Petland on Lower Muscatine Road in Iowa City the evening of August 21st and used the victim’s credit card information to put $250 on a store gift card.

Authorities say they’re unsure how Toro Junior got the information, as the victim lives outside of Seattle Washington. He manually entered the information into the system to add to the gift card. An unnamed co-suspect and Toro Junior came back to the store later, and attempted to purchase a dog and other pet supplies using the gift card, but their purchase was denied due to employee suspicions.

Authorities were able to get a positive ID on Toro Junior by an employee who knew him personally.

A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was picked up early Wednesday and booked into the Johnson County Jail. He’s been charged with unauthorized use of a credit card under $1500 and 5th degree theft. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to over five years in prison.
