Doug Roberson has been a staple of the Iowa City music scene for decades. Now, he’ll be a staple of the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame.
The current member of Iowa City’s Diplomats of Solid Sound was announced as one of the Hall’s 2020 inductees earlier this month. Roberson has been playing in Iowa City-area bands since the late 1980’s, including The Dangtrippers, The Bent Scepters and Head Candy. He also booked bands at Gabe’s for approximately 20 years, and has also worked at local music venues such as The Blue Moose, The Mill and The Picador. In the 1990’s Roberson also owned Apollo Records, a record store located above the current site of The Yacht Club on South Linn Street.
Roberson is originally from Maquoketa, but moved to Iowa City to attend the University of Iowa in 1980 and has lived here ever since.
Other local inductees into the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame 2020 class are Iowa City’s Shade of Blue and Musician’s Pro Shop, which has locations in Kennedy Plaza in Iowa City and in Burlington.
This year’s induction ceremonies are set for September 5th and 6th in the Iowa Great Lakes.
