A Grinnell man has been taken into custody after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase through two counties in a stolen vehicle.

According to arrest reports, 26-year-old Robert Julin of Broad Street stole a vehicle off the 300 block of South Clinton Street at approximately 10:11pm Wednesday. He was heading westbound on I-80 near the 237-mile marker at approximately 10:20pm when officers attempted to contact him. However, Julin allegedly fled in the stolen vehicle, leading deputies and state patrol in pursuit. He reportedly reached speeds of 95 miles an hour as he went through Iowa County and back into Johnson County before finally being stopped after about an hour.

Police allege that he drove over lawn furniture during his flight, and determined that Julin’s license was suspended.

Julin was taken into custody and charged with 1st Degree theft, eluding, 3rd degree burglary of an unoccupied motor vehicle, 5th degree criminal mischief, and driving while suspended. If convicted on all counts, Julin could be sentenced to over seventeen years in prison.
