A Coralville man with probation violations was arrested Sunday night after allegedly trying to leave the scene of a reported trespassing.
Police were called to the area around Village Drive and Ireland in Tiffin at around 11:30pm for reports of an alleged trespassing. 40-year-old Ryan Pirara of Holiday Road was allegedly behind the wheel of a Chrysler Sebring that was seen leaving the scene of the incident.
Police say Pirara did not immediately stop his car when police activated their emergency lights. They allege that Pirara jumped from the vehicle and began running away from the scene.
Pirara allegedly failed to follow verbal commands to stop running, and was eventually located hiding in a nearby ditch after the foot chase. Pirara reportedly failed to identify himself when asked, and eventually was found to have a driving status of barred.
Pirara was wanted on probation violations stemming from an incident in April of 2016. He was convicted of 2nd degree Criminal Mischief and 3rd degree Theft in December of 2017 and given a deferred suspended sentence with two years of probation. Officials say he failed to obey the terms of probation and had not kept police aware of his whereabouts.
Warrants were issued for Pirara’s arrest on October 30th. He was taken into custody and charged with driving while barred as a habitual offender and interference with official acts for Sunday’s incident. With the outstanding warrants, Pirara could be sentenced to over 12 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
