An Iowa City man who was wanted on a criminal mischief charge has been arrested after allegedly assaulting his live-in girlfriend Saturday.

According to police, 19-year-old Jacob Gallman-Ringing Shield of Haywood Drive and his live in girlfriend got into an altercation at their residence at approximately 7:40am. A verbal argument began in the apartment, which allegedly led to the woman involved attempting to leave the premises.

Gallman-Ringing Shield reportedly stood in front of the door, preventing the woman from leaving, and allegedly told her that he didn’t want her to leave. He’s accused of keeping the woman in the apartment against her will.

Gallman-Ringing Shield then allegedly pushed the woman away from the door, with her trying to grab the inside door handle with him still in front of her. Gallman-Ringing Shield then is accused of pinning her arm between him and the door, causing pain and redness in her right hand.

The woman is alleged to have tried three times to leave the apartment before retreating into the living room, with Gallman-Ringing Shield behind her. The woman then ran out the front door to get away from her boyfriend.

Police say the two have been in an intimate relationship since this past May, have lived together since November, and the woman is pregnant with Gallman-Ringing Shield’s child.

He was wanted on a criminal mischief charge from December 1st when he allegedly got mad at his girlfriend while they were parked at Dillards on Coral Ridge Avenue and kicked the passenger-side door of her vehicle several times. He was charged with 5th degree criminal mischief but left the scene before police arrived.

Gallman-Ringing Shield was charged with domestic assault causing injury and false imprisonment from Saturday’s incident. If convicted on all three charges, he could be sentenced to a maximum of 25 months in prison.
