A West Liberty man celebrated the new year by allegedly fighting with Iowa City Police.

Officers say they observed 20-year-old Ruben Renteria of The Mobile Village manufactured housing community on A Street arguing and being aggressive with pedestrians on The Ped Mall around 12:30am Wednesday. He was also seen throwing punches at the door of The Graduate Hotel.

When police made contact with Renteria, he allegedly began throwing punches at them and attempted to flee the area. He allegedly showed multiple signs of intoxication and resisted handcuffing. His blood alcohol content was measured at .212.

Police say Renteria gave multiple names and dates of birth, and he was found in possession of multiple identification cards.

Renteria is charged with Disorderly Conduct, Public Intoxication, Interference with Official Acts, Malicious Prosecution and Providing False Identity Information. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 16 months in jail.
