Police in Cedar Rapids saying a man is fighting for his life after being shot in a gas station lot, and officers are now searching for a suspect.
Authorities say in a news release that the shooting happened just before 8 a.m. Wednesday at the Kum & Go gas station at the intersection of 32nd Street and 1st Avenue Northeast. A man in his 20s was found with critical injuries and rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Investigators believe the man was targeted. A neighbor told KGAN TV that he heard about ten shots. The name of the shooting victim has not yet been released.
Students at nearby Arthur Elementary were brought inside earlier than usual and administrators put their safety protocol in place to keep outsiders from entering the building.
