An investigation into an Iowa City shots fired incident has led to three drunk driving arrests after officers received reports of vehicles fleeing the scene.
Just after 5:30 Sunday morning the ICPD responded to multiple reports of shots fired at 840 Maggard Street. Upon arrival, officers located multiple items of evidence indicating several shots were fired in and around that apartment building. No injuries were reported.
Police received reports of several vehicles fleeing the scene. During the investigation, officers stopped a Silver Nissan near the apartment building. Police say the driver, identified as 25-year-old Geneva Hudson of Cross Park Avenue, showed multiple signs of intoxication, admitted to drinking and showed measurable impairment on field sobriety tests. Her blood alcohol content was measured at .160.
After being arrested for Operating While Intoxicated, Husdon allegedly showed her cousin’s ID and claimed to be her. She even signed her cousin’s name during implied consent, although she later revealed her true identity before being booked into the Johnson County Jail.
At 5:40am, five minutes after Hudson was stopped, 40-year-old Billy Dee Williams of Chicago was found driving away from the scene. He showed signs of impairment, but denied drinking alcohol or smoking marijuana. Williams performed poorly on field sobriety tests, registered a BAC of .000 and refused urine testing.
Five minutes later police stopped a Chevy Cruze with no license plates that was leaving the scene. Police say the driver, identified as 24-year-old Ty’Eisha Peaks of Woodside Drive, showed multiple signs of intoxication, failed field sobriety tests and registered a BAC of .122.
Hudson, Williams and Peaks are each charged with OWI, with Hudson facing an additional charge of Tampering with Records, an Aggravated Misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of two years in prison.
