An investigation into an Iowa City shots fired incident has led to a pair of unrelated drunk driving arrests.
Just after 5:30 Sunday morning the ICPD responded to multiple reports of shots fired at 840 Maggard St. Upon arrival, officers located multiple items of evidence indicating several shots were fired in and around that apartment building. No one was located indicating anyone had been injured.
During the investigation, officers stopped a Silver Nissan near the apartment building. Police say the driver, identified as 25-year-old Geneva Hudson of Cross Park Avenue, showed multiple signs of intoxication, admitted to drinking and showed measurable impairment on field sobriety tests. Her blood alcohol content was measured at .160.
After being arrested for Operating While Intoxicated, Husdon allegedly showed her cousin’s ID and claimed to be her. She even signed her cousin’s name during implied consent, although she later revealed her true identity before being booked into the Johnson County Jail.
Just after 5:45am, just 15 minutes after Hudson was stopped, police stopped a Chevy Cruze with no license plates that was leaving the scene. Police say the driver, identified as 24-year-old Ty’Eisha Peaks of Woodside Drive, showed multiple signs of intoxication, failed field sobriety tests and registered a BAC of .122.
Hudson and Peaks are each charged with OWI, with Hudson facing an additional charge of Tampering with Records, an Aggravated Misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of two years in prison.
The shooting incident is still being actively investigated by the ICPD, and any residents with information about this shooting or who find damaged property are asked to contact police. In addition, anyone in that area with security cameras are asked to review their recordings and contact Iowa City Police at 319-356-5276 with any potential footage or information.
