The University of Iowa is hoping to continue the progress they’ve made on several levels despite the fact that eight of the 12 college dean positions have seen turnover in the past two years.

The most recent announced departures include Sarah Gardial from the Tippie College of Business and Melissa Shivers, Vice President of Student Life.

In a statement released by the University, president Bruce Harreld said the school will look internally to replace Shivers, who started in June 2017. He hopes to name a replacement before  the fall semester ends, as Shivers will be leaving by the end of December. She said she was recruited by Ohio State, who will pay her $325,000 annually, a bump up from the $295,000 she makes at the U of I.

An interim dean for the Tippie College of Business will be named before Gardial leaves in March to become dean of the Massey College of Business on the campus of Belmont University in Nashville.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the University has had trouble retaining a Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, having four people coming and going in that position over the last two years. It started with Chief Diversity officer Georgina Dodge leaving in July 2017. Lena Hill became interim before leaving in 2018. Shivers was the interim replacement for Hill until the university finally hired Tajuan Wilson as associate vice president for the position in June. Wilson, however, unexpectedly resigned just six weeks later. That prompted the UI to make the decision to not immediately replace Wilson but have the three units that comprise Diversity, Equity and Inclusion report to Montse Fuentes.
