A Hills man has been taken into custody after being reported cutting himself.

Police were called to the 200 block of East Main Street in Hills Sunday afternoon on reports of a man actively cutting himself with a knife. Deputies entered the apartment in question and found 19 year-old Michael Hiller sitting in a chair with a large kitchen-style knife estimated to be about 5 inches long.

Officers told Hiller to drop the knife several times, but he refused. Eventually, a deputy deployed a Taser and took Hiller to the ground. Medical personnel on hand subsequently checked Hiller out.

A search of the apartment allegedly turned up a small container continuing four glass pipes and one plastic pipe, with black residue observed on the glass pipes. Roommates reportedly confirmed that the pipes belonged to Hiller.

A warrant was requested, and Hiller was arrested on Interference with Official Acts involving a Dangerous Weapon and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia on Thursday afternoon. If convicted, he could be sentenced to over five years in prison.
