North Liberty man arrested after robbing man of computer

A North Liberty man who stole a man’s computer has been taken into custody.

Police say the incident occurred the afternoon of August 24th in the parking lot west of The Mill on Burlington Street. The victim agreed to meet Tyrelle Harris of Penn Oaks Drive there to sell him his laptop computer.

Harris is accused of taking the computer and charging cord from the victim before paying him for the items, grabbing the victim by the shirt, and throwing him to the ground. An unnamed co-defendant struck the victim with the passenger door of their vehicle.

When the victim tried to call 911, Harris grabbed the phone and threw it to the ground before leaving in the vehicle.

Later, someone reported to police that someone was throwing items out of the window and into the ditch along Highway 380 and officers recovered the victim’s items.

A warrant was issued for Harris’s arrest and he was located Thursday night in the 100 block of Sugar Creek Lane in North Liberty in regards to an assault complaint. Harris was accused of assaulting and choking the victim over a personal issue.

Harris was booked into the Johnson County Jail Thursday night on 2nd degree Theft, driving while barred habitual offender, and assault causing bodily injury charges. If convicted, he could spend up to 13 years in prison.
