A police chase on Interstate 380 has led to the arrest of an armed Quad Cities man.

A Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy noticed a vehicle traveling below the minimum speed limit between the Swisher/Shueyville exit and the Iowa River just before 11:15 Tuesday night. The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the driver sped up and led the deputy on a brief chase before eventually stopping.

The driver, identified as 24-year-old Todd Jenkins of Davenport, showed multiple signs of intoxication. A breathalyzer test registered his blood alcohol concentration at .166. He refused Datamaster testing.

Jenkins admitted to having a gun in the vehicle. The weapon and magazines were found on the driver’s seat and console. The gun had a round in the chamber.

While being processed, Jenkins allegedly broke a cellphone in his possession. The phone was later determined to belong to his girlfriend, from whom he took it after the two were involved in a dispute.

Jenkins is charged with Operating While Intoxicated, Eluding, Carrying Weapons, Driving While Suspended and 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of five years in prison.
