Fire destroys two homes at Hilltop manufactured housing community

Fire destroyed two homes in an Iowa City mobile home park early Friday morning.

According to a news release from the Iowa City Fire Department, firefighters responded to a structure fire in the area of 2018 Waterfront Drive just after 2:30am. The first fire unit arrived six minutes after notification to find two mobile homes on fire in lots 109 and 110 at the Hilltop manufactured housing community. Additional fire crews from Coralville, North Liberty, Solon and West Branch were called in to assist.

Fire crews entered both homes to fight the fire and perform search and rescue. A family of four escaped from the fire in one mobile home prior to the ICFD’s arrival, while the other mobile home was unoccupied. The fires were brought under control within thirty minutes.

Twenty-six firefighters responded to the alarm. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. Damage to the homes and contents is estimated to be $65,000.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the ICFD Fire Marshal’s office.
