A man who robbed an Iowa City bank and another in Davenport in 2017 has been sentenced to nearly 11 years in prison.
35-year-old Tyson Hathaway was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Davenport. He must serve three years of supervised release after he leaves custody. He also was ordered to pay more than $9,800 in restitution.
Authorities say Hathaway admitted robbing a Northwest Bank & Trust branch in Davenport on Dec. 12, 2017.
On December 29th of that year, officers were dispatched to the US Bank branch on William Street in Iowa City at approximately 10:42am for a robbery. Hathaway and Lemarkis Hobson, both 32 at the time, were apprehended shortly after the incident after their vehicle veered off I80 in snowy conditions and stopped in a cornfield. Police found items taken in the robbery near the crash scene and two sets of footprints leading away from the site. Both were apprehended after one was located hiding in a nearby ditch, while the other was taken into custody on Northgate Drive.
They were charged with 2nd degree Robbery but the case was dismissed without prejudice in Johnson County that April while federal charges were pursued. There were no injuries reported in either robbery.
