Repeatedly saying he wanted to kill someone while a tenant at Shelter House has led to the arrest of an Iowa City transient.
Police were called to the facility Saturday just before 5pm on reports of a person harassing staff and tenants, trying to fight them. Staff alleged that the man, 54-year-old Mark Staley, kept saying he wanted to kill someone.
Staley was observed having bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, having trouble standing, and had the odor of ingested alcohol. He refused a PBT.
Staley has two previous public intoxication convictions, most recently last November.
Staley had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear for arraignment regarding a 4th degree theft charge on May 12th of this year.
He was taken into custody and charged with his 3rd or subsequent Public Intox, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a prison sentence of up to two years if convicted. The theft charge carries a maximum sentence of 1 year.
