Leading police on a pair of foot chases through downtown Iowa City early Friday morning has led to numerous charges against a University of Iowa student.

An officer noticed 20-year-old Alexander Casarez-White of Ames urinating in the Capitol Street parking ramp just after 2:30am. When approached by the officer, Casarez-White allegedly walked away. He then began running when the officer told him to stop, eventually jumping into the beer garden behind Martini’s. Martini’s was closed at the time, and Casarez-White is below 21 years of age.

While being walked to the patrol car, Casarez-White allegedly attempted to slip his handcuffs and again run away. He was again captured after a brief foot chase, which ended with him being taken to the ground and pepper sprayed. A fictious Ohio driver’s license was found during a search of his person.

Casarez-White is charged with Interference With Official Acts, Public Intoxication, Possession of a Fictitious License, Trespassing, Public Urination, Presence on Premises After Hours, Escape From Custody and Failure to Use a Crosswalk. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of three years and three months in prison.
