An Iowa Board of Regents subcommittee has approved base pay increases for union nurses and graduate students.

The Press-Citizen reports both agreements, which were tentatively approved Wednesday in Ames, provides a 3% base pay increase.  It also provides a minimum 3% increase for returning union members on July 1 and July 1, 2026.

The agreements cover the University of Iowa’s Campaign to Organize Graduate Students, or COGS, and UI Health Care’s SEIU Healthcare Minnesota and Iowa unions. The agreements will last two years if approved by the Regents today.

Both unions voted to ratify the agreements, although COGS originally asked for a 25% wage increase  that they said would put them line with Big Ten average compensation. SEIU originally proposed a 14 percent increase, followed by a 12 percent increase the next year.
