An inmate has died in custody at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Coralville.
The Iowa Department of Corrections says 55-year-old Michael Lee Cone was pronounced dead at 11:40 Monday night in a hospice room at the Oakdale facility. Cone had been serving a six-year term after sexually abusing a child under the age of ten in Des Moines in 2019. His sentence began on Dec. 7, 2020.
