A nationwide protest against the Trump administration and Elon Musk is being held in Iowa City, other locations across the state and nationwide Saturday.

Billed locally as “Hands Off!  Iowa City Fights Back,” the event runs from 11:30am to 2:30pm starting at the corner of Iowa Avenue and North Clinton  Street, in front of the Pentacrest.

In a Facebook post promoting the event, organizers say, “The mass mobilization day is our message to the world that we do not consent to the destruction  of our government and our economy for the benefit of Trump and his billionaire allies.  Alongside Americans across the country, we are marching, rallying, and protesting to demand a stop to the chaos and build an opposition movement against the looting of our country.”

The Press-Citizen reports Saturday’s speakers are expected to include members from the Iowa City Federation of Labor, the Iowa City branch of the U.S. Post Office, the Veteran’s Union and VA, Iowa City Democrats, the ACLU, USAID and a local “celebrity.”

Other events across the state will be held at sites including Cedar Rapids, Mt. Vernon, Lisbon, and Benton County.
