Iowa City police have arrested the suspect in a shooting death over the weekend.
38-year-old Elijah Williams of Iowa City was shot and killed as he and another person were sitting in a car parked along the 1800 block of South Gilbert Street just before midnight on March 29th. Williams was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
44 year-old Antavis M.W. Watson was arrested on Tuesday and charged with 1st Degree Murder, Attempted Murder, and Possession of a Firearm as a Felon. At least one witness identified Watson as the shooter.
Video from multiple sources in the area reportedly shows Watson arriving in the vicinity and walking up to the vehicle occupied by Williams and the other person. Arrest reports indicate Watson knew Williams, and data from his phone indicates Watson and Williams were feuding.
Watson could be sentenced to life in prison without parole if convicted on the murder charge.
