Johnson County reserve deputy loses battle with cancer

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of one of their own after announcing the death of a reserve deputy.

In a Facebook post, they announced that Kendall Giese passed away on March 26th after a battle with cancer.

Giese, an Iowa City native, began as a reserve deputy with the Sheriff’s office in 2008 and was promoted to Deputy Sheriff in 2012, where he remained until 2020. He then became Public Safety Officer at the Eastern Iowa Airport, but returned to the Sheriff’s Office as a Reserve Deputy in 2021.

The post said, “Kendall was an outstanding young man and will be remembered for his bravery, selflessness, and service to others.  All of us at the Sheriff’s Office are keeping Kendall’s family close in our hearts during their time of loss and remembrance.”

Giese was 36 years old. Visitation is today at St Patrick’s Church in Iowa City from 4-8pm; the funeral is Wednesday.
