A North Liberty woman arrested last year for allegedly threatening to kill her daughter’s Junior High principal has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.
42-year-old Melody Peer went to North Central Junior High on September 13th and reportedly confronted school staff about an issue involving her daughter and another student. She allegedly became belligerent towards the principal, yelling and causing a scene.
Peer was escorted out by principal Colby Miller and reportedly continued to yell, scream and use racial epithets. She then allegedly threatened to kill him.
Peer left the grounds before police arrived. The school went into their safety protocols based on the threats in order to keep students and staff safe. The principal requested charges be filed.
Peer was originally charged with 1st degree harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor. The plea deal was for 3rd degree harassment, a simple misdemeanor. The jail sentence was suspended and Peer was fined $200. A no-contact order between Peer and the principal will remain in place through March 2030.
