Local federal employees, veterans, and community leaders will share their experiences with how major federal cuts, funding freezes, and illegal firings of federal employees are affecting Iowans at a Mt. Pleasant town hall.
The release from the Iowa City Federation of Labor says the event will gather voters’ messages to share with Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks. Despite numerous invitations from constituents, Miller-Meeks did not schedule any public events during last week’s Congressional recess, so local labor and community organizations are continuing to host town hall gatherings to provide a venue for residents to voice their concerns and questions, which will be delivered to Miller-Meeks’ office.
The public event will take place 6 pm tonight at the Veterans Club, 300 W. Monroe St.
Speakers will share firsthand experiences with how actions of Elon Musk’s “DOGE” operation are already directly affecting Iowans and major economic sectors across Iowa’s 1st Congressional District.
The union states Miller-Meeks has not opposed terminations of frontline federal workers who serve Iowa veterans, seniors, farmers, and businesses, and who keep food, water, and airlines safe.
