A Missouri man was taken into custody Tuesday after an investigation alleged that he was enticing a minor for sexual purposes.
According to police, the incidents occurred at an Oxford residence between October 8th and 31st of last year. 35-year-old Jason Champion of St. Charles was reportedly with a 14-year-old juvenile without any other adult supervision, despite being a registered sex offender. It’s alleged that during these interactions, Champion had sexually explicit conversations with the juvenile. He reportedly asked the juvenile about their sexual past while making comments about their body. He also allegedly gave his phone number to the juvenile and said that if they were to have sex, he wouldn’t tell anyone and knew the juvenile wouldn’t either.
He is not a parent or guardian of the juvenile, nor married to a parent or guardian of the juvenile, but registered as a resident at the location, where he lives in a trailer on the property.
Police say Champion also offered the juvenile marijuana, which he kept in his trailer. The victim told investigators that they found Champion’s comments offensive and made them uncomfortable.
A warrant was issued February 20th; Champion was arrested Tuesday afternoon. He faces several charges that include Child Endangerment, Enticing a Minor under 16 for Sexual Purposes, Grooming, and a Drug Distribution violation. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 37 years in prison.
