A Coralville man was arrested on several charges stemming from a traffic stop earlier this month.
35-year-old David Roberts of North Ridge Drive was stopped for allegedly traveling 12 miles over the posted speed limit on Oakdale Boulevard in Iowa City March 15th just after 8pm. Upon contact, the vehicle allegedly had the odor of marijuana, and Roberts reportedly admitted to having the drug in the vehicle. The marijuana was found during a probable cause search, as well as 8 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms, packaging for the sale of drugs, and two scales.
Also reportedly recovered during the search was a single 9mm bullet. A check of Roberts’ record showed he was convicted of a felony in 2023 and sentenced to two years probation beginning in January 2024. He is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition during that period.
A warrant was issued for his arrest on March 18th. He was charged with a Class D Controlled Substance violation, Failure to Affix Drug Stamp, Marijuana possession, Keeping vehicle for controlled substances, and Dominion or Control of ammunition as a felon. If convicted on all counts, Roberts could be sentenced to up to 19 years in prison.
He was released on his own recognizance after his initial appearance, pending arraignment.
