A Hiawatha man was arrested in Coralville Thursday afternoon after allegedly driving while intoxicated with a child in his vehicle.

Police were called to the 800 block of 1st Avenue just after 2pm and made contact with 55-year-old Blake Boyson of Cress Parkway as he was sitting in the driver’s seat of his Lincoln SUV. He allegedly admitted to drinking vodka before driving to that location from Iowa City.  Field tests reportedly showed multiple signs of impairment, and after a PBT confirmed intoxication, a Datamaster test showed his breath-alcohol level at .266 percent, over three times the legal limit.

A minor child was in the vehicle with Boyson, who reportedly admitted was in the vehicle while he drove in an intoxicated state.

Boyson was charged with 2nd offense OWI and Child Endangerment and could be sentenced to up to four years in prison if convicted on both counts.
