A Coralville man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly threatening to have a woman killed during a drunken assault.

Officers responded to an apartment on Holiday Road on reports of a fight in progress.  The victim who reported the incident claimed 39-year-old Delvon Funches of Boston Way struck her in the face with the back of his hand.  A visible bruise under the right eye was observed by officers.

Funches also reportedly threatened to have his family members from Chicago come to Coralville and shoot her.  The woman told police she was in fear that Funches would carry out the threat.

Officers located Funches about a block away. They say he had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred his words, was unsteady on his feet, and had the odor of ingested alcohol.  Funches allegedly admitted to drinking but refused a post-arrest PBT.

Funches was charged with Assault causing Bodily Injury, 1st degree Harassment, and Public Intoxication. He could be sentenced to over three years in prison if convicted on all counts. Funches was released to the Department of Correctional Services ahead of arraignment.

A no-contact order was issued by Judge Jason Burns.

Funches has a history of public intoxication and assault charges going back to 2018. He was convicted for his third OWI in 2021.
