An area transient was taken into custody on warrants stemming from two separate incidents last month.

At around 5:30am February 19th, 23-year-old Laron Johnson, who lists his address on Pondview Court, was allegedly found sleeping in a camper parked in the driveway of a residence on Duck Creek Drive. The resident confronted Johnson and yelled at him to get out of his camper. A scuffle ensued inside the camper, which resulted in the two falling out of the camper.

Johnson received an injury to his face, and a privacy door inside the camper was damaged. Johnson fled before authorities arrived.

Just after 8am, authorities were on the 3500 block of Foxana Drive looking for Johnson.  Footprints were discovered that led to the back door of a residence there, and officers entered to search for Johnson. Once they announced that a K9 was being deployed, Johnson ran out from the basement and away from officers on scene.  Police reportedly had to take Johnson down several times because he kept trying to get up and flee. One officer sustained a cut on his forehead and wrist during the encounter.

It was allegedly discovered that Johnson was wearing clothes taken from the victim’s residence, estimated to be worth about $300.

Warrants for Johnson’s arrest were issued February 24th. He was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon.

For the camper incident, he was charged with 2nd degree Burglary and 5th degree Criminal Mischief. For the second incident, Johnson was charged with 2nd degree Burglary, Interference with Official Acts causing Bodily Injury, and 5th degree theft. If convicted on all counts, Johnson could be sentenced to over 21 years in prison.
