US Census reports Iowa City Metro among fastest growing in the state

Annual population statistics from the US Census Bureau released last week show that the Iowa City Metro is one of Iowa’s fastest-growing.

The Press-Citizen reports Iowa City is the second-fastest-growing metro in Iowa since 2020, adding 4.2% to its population to reach 180,756.

The Iowa City metro, or corridor, includes the cities of Coralville, North Liberty and Tiffin, whose population has grown by 40 percent from 2020 to 2023.

Coralville grew by 5.7 percent from 2020 to 2023; Iowa City proper had a population of 75,678 in 2023, up 1.1 percent since 2020.

The Des Moines Metro is the fastest-growing metro in the state, with a current population just over 753,900. They grew 6.3% since 2020.
