What started as a prescribed burn near Swisher led to a mutli-agency response Tuesday afternoon.
The Jefferson-Monroe Fire Department was supervising a controlled burn at 1380 Randall Drive…next to Interstate 380…at about 4:00. A department news release says the fire quickly spread to the west and jumped the break that had been set up, turning it into an out-of-control field fire. Firefighters from Solon, North Liberty, Fairfax, Amana and Tiffin were all called in to assist, and the full fire was extinguished around 6:10 p.m.
The Jefferson-Monroe Fire Department says it will investigate the incident to improve future prescribed burning procedures.
