An Iowa City man pulled over for not wearing seatbelts Tuesday afternoon faces charges after giving false names to officers.

32-year-old Isaiah Aaron of Nex Avenue was stopped at around 4:45 pm near the intersection of 1st and Rochester because he and his front-seat passenger weren’t buckled up.  A check of his driving record showed his status as Suspended for non-payment of fines since February 2019.

At first, Aaron identified himself with an incorrect name, but when asked to sign the citation put down his actual first name and the last name of the incorrect name. When confronted, Aaron then provided another false name before providing his true identity.

He was charged with two counts of providing false identification information and one count of providing false information on the citation. If convicted on all charges, Aaron could be sentenced to up to 90 days in jail.
