The Iowa High School Athletic Association is moving the boys state basketball tournament to Hilton Coliseum in Ames starting in 2027.

The initial five-year agreement comes with the support of the Discover Ames program, which plans to incorporate the new CyTown district as part of the state tournament experience.

The CyTown district – announced in 2022 and expected to be up and running in 2027 – will feature space for retail, food and beverage, common areas, and a 200-room Marriott hotel called “The Cardinal”.

Des Moines has played host to the tournament annually since 1963.
