An Oxford man was taken into custody late Wednesday night after allegedly being found under the influence while eluding officers.
According to the arrest report, 18-year old Matthew Gragg of Copi Road NW was on Lower Oxford Road just past 11:45pm when a sheriff’s deputy caught him on radar going 72 miles an hour in a 55-miles per hour zone. He allegedly failed to stop, despite lights and siren being deployed. He then sped up, reaching speeds in excess of 90 miles an hour.
Upon contact, Gragg reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes and had the odor of alcohol on his breath. Several containers of alcohol were located inside the vehicle, and Gragg allegedly admitted to drinking a few beers.
After performing poorly on field sobriety tests, he consented to a breath sample, showing a breath-alcohol level of .119 percent.
Gragg was charged with first offense OWI and eluding. He faces up to six years in prison if convicted on both counts.
