An Iowa City man was arrested earlier this month after an alleged incident when he resisted arrest and struck an officer.

At approximately 12:15am March 4th, police reportedly observed an individual trying to quickly exit an apartment.  30-year-old John Zamora of the Quarters on Highway 6 East was then allegedly observed trying to aggressively drag the person back into the apartment while holding a bottle of vodka.

Officers on scene asked Zamora to come out of the apartment, but he allegedly refused. He then reportedly became violent and had to be physically brought out of the residence.  He was placed under arrest and during the procedure allegedly hit an officer across the face.

A post-arrest search reportedly turned up a small clear plastic baggie with a white powdery substance consistent with cocaine, a THC pen, and a one-hitter with a strong odor of marijuana.

Zamora was charged with Interference with Official Acts including Bodily Injury, Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations causing Bodily Injury, Marijuana possession, a controlled substance violation, and possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, Zamora could be sentenced to over five years in prison.
